Leighton Moss Nature Reserve

Wonderous Wildlife At Leighton Moss

Wonderous Wildlife at RSPB Leighton Moss:

Leighton Moss is one of the most popular user-friendly reserves around Morecambe Bay.

It has the largest reed beds in North West England and is home to a whole range of wildlife from mammals.

Above all, red deer and otters to birds like bearded tits and marsh harriers.

Earlier this year saw fine starling murmurations and sightings of two bitterns.

Here are 5 top things to do in spring/summer at Leighton Moss:

1. Look out for spectacular marsh harriers passing food to each other while flying.
2. Pick up a Wildlife Explorer Backpack to help children discover more on the nature reserve.
3. Watch the red deer on a summer evening.
4. Find out what lives underwater at a pond dipping event.
5. Count how many different types of butterflies you can spot along the nature trails.

RSPB Leighton Moss is accessible by train from Kents Bank to Silverdale station, which is a short walk away.
