Kents Bank Station

Kents Bank station house was built beside the railway at Kents Bank level crossing during 1864-65.

It also served as the station office.

Today, a smart new passenger shelter has been installed on Kents Bank Railway Station near Grange-over-Sands.

The work was completed on time as part of an upgrade to bring passenger facilities up to modern standards.

Furthermore, the Furness Line Community Rail Partnership managed the project.

Additionally, funding has come from South Lakeland District Council.

The official opening of the new shelter took place on July 3rd 2015.

In addition, the next phase of the project is the installation of electronic display boards.

Kents Bank Station is on the site of the pre-railway route crossing from Lancaster to Ulverston over the Morecambe Bay sands.

In 1857, when Kents Bank Station opened, there were no buildings. A hut provided shelter for the Station Master.

The station was closed temporarily in 1858, due to a lack of business, but reappeared in the timetable in May 1859.

As previously mentioned, Kents Bank station master lived at Station House, which also served as the station office until a station office and porters’ room were built in 1890.

Today, Kents Bank Station is unique in having its own small cafe and library.
