Grange-over-Sands grew slowly as a small fishing village, and during the 18th-century it had occasional shipping. By the 1820s, Grange was described as a ‘beautiful sea-bathing village where there were a small number of villas and hotels.
The Promenade:
With a mile-long promenade, formal flowerbeds and smart cafes, what could be more enjoyable than looking out over the vista of Morecambe Bay?
The beautiful gardens run the length and screen the railway line. They were created for visitors and residents to enjoy whilst taking the sea air.
Today, the gardens are looked after by volunteers.

Hampsfell Hospice:
There are numerous local walks from Grange including Hampsfell with its panoramic views from the hospice.
The hospice is a building given by the vicar of Cartmel as a resting place for travellers.
Climb up the stone staircase for a 360-degree view from the Lake District mountains to the Isle of Man to Blackpool tower.
Humphrey Head:
Another favourite walk is to Humphrey Head, a striking limestone promontory jutting out into the bay.
Humphrey Head is known for its important flora and fauna. It is also reputed to be where the last wolf in England was killed.
If you are interested in bird watching, an estimated 200,000 birds visit the bay during the winter.
