Bardsea Beach

Bardsea Beauty: Beyond Ulverston

Bardsea Beauty: Beyond Ulverston

Bardsea is situated close to Ulverston on the Furness peninsula overlooking the vast sweep of Morecambe Bay

The picturesque Bardsea beach and shoreline is a place of peace and quiet.

This is somewhat ironic considering there was a time when it was a busy port with regular steam packers running to Fleetwood and Liverpool.

On entering the village, Main Street has houses on the right-hand side, built on the land of the former Bardsea Hall which was demolished in the 1930s.

The road continues past the Ship Inn, the only pub in the village, which was once a farmhouse.

Almost opposite the pub is the village church, the  Holy Trinity, where on a clear day the views are breathtaking.

the tall spire of the church is a well know landmark and can be seen for miles around.

At the top of the hill was another pub called the Braddyls Arms which is now a private house.

The road sweeps down to the shore with attractive cottages once owned by fishermen and farm workers.

Take a trip a little way out of the village to Birkrigg Common, where you can see The Druid’s Circle, which consists of two roughly concentric stone rings.
