Once a small village of farmers, fishermen, and boat builders it grew into an idyllic holiday resort thanks to the arrival of the railway in 1857.

Additionally, Arnside was once a thriving fishing port when shrimps were plentiful in Morecambe bay.

The fishing industry faded when the railway arrived and the early Victorians made the village a seaside resort.

Today, the station is a great place for bird watching, with thousands of waders feeding in the mud, saltmarsh and shingle.

Bird life is brimming over all of Morecambe Bay with thousands of waders making the most of the rich shallow waters.

Look out for The Bore – a tidal wave caused by the surge of the incoming tide meeting the resistance from the sands and channels of the bay.

A seasonal siren will warn of the incoming tide and the bore will be visible about 2 hours before high tide.

Today, Arnside is a thriving village with a population of c2700, with a primary school, library, and a range of interesting independent shops and numerous clubs and societies.

The surrounding area is great for walking, from a gentle stroll along the promenade to a more energetic walk up Arnside Knott.
